Marriage to a Malaysian Citizen

Malaysian Marriage Basic Requirements

All foreign residents wishing to marry must live in Malaysia at least 7 days before the utility of marriage.
You will need to make two separate journeys to the National Registration Department. During the first visit, the marrying couple needs to deliver the following documents:
Marriage application structure JPN.KCO2. (This and other types are printed in Bahasa Malaysia only, so you should entire them prior to arrival at the Registry office. Completing the forms in English is allowed.)

Passport and photocopy of the first web page and page displaying the latest entry into Malaysia.

1 colored photo of every party (32 mm x 38 mm).
Letter confirming freedom to marry. You can execute an affidavit at the Consular Section which will serve this purpose.
This letter should be brought to the Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) for authentication.
If earlier married, death certificate(s) of preceding spouse(s) or divorce decree(s) (original and one photocopy).
After the first visit in which the archives and applications are submitted, the marrying couple has to wait at least 21 days until they can return and have the marriage formally registered. It is possible to get married greater quickly (through a “special license”), however, there are additional varieties and fees, and approval of a senior Registry official is required.

After the ready period, the married couple will make a second time out to the National Registration Department for the official marriage ceremony. Two witnesses will want to accompany the married couple to finalize the marriage. A marriage certificate will be issued at once following the ceremony.

Family Members

If your Malaysian partner has dependent children, this no longer affects the Malaysian Marriage file application.

If you have dependent children, they have no impact on the application to marry a Malaysian citizen.
